Smithy Wood - Offices Development - Sheffield, Smithy Wood Grows Steelwork

Date: 03 Jul 2007

Phase 1 of St Paul's Developments' massive 50 acre Smithy Wood Business Park at J35 on the M1 motorway in Sheffield is well underway with the steelwork now coming out of the ground. Tremendous construction progress has been made at the Objective 1 supported site since the appointment of Bradford based main contractor ISG Totty two months ago.

ISG Totty secured a £4.5 M contract with St Paul's Developments to undertake the first phase of development at the former colliery site. ISG Totty has been instructed to construct six high specification two storey office buildings varying in size from 5,000 sq ft to 10,000 sq ft.

The premium office accommodation will feature solar shading, with render and metal cladding to the façade and standing seam metal roofs. The office specification includes comfort cooling, raised access floors and suspended ceilings.

ISG Totty commenced the construction period on site following the completion of reclamation and levelling works which was undertaken by VHE Construction Ltd.

Upon completion, Smithy Wood Business Park will offer 100,000 sq ft of high quality office space and over 700,000 sq ft of prime industrial space, and will establish itself as a strategic business location for the region.

Dennis Enuson, Senior Project Manager for developers St Paul's says; "We are delighted with the progress made by ISG Totty at Smithy Wood, its great to see the site coming to life. The programme of works for the site demands a tenacious and diligent approach and it was felt that ISG Totty would be able to bring this to the Smithy Wood development. There has been a phenomenal amount of interest in the site from a wide variety of sectors, we are particularly excited to see the steelwork coming out of the ground and are looking forward to the progress that 2007 will bring."

John Gittins, Managing Director for ISG Totty continues: "Working closely with St Paul's Developments we have implemented a phased project programme, which enhances efficiencies on site by allowing a seamless transition from one trade to another on each office block. This strategic planning, from the very outset of the project, means we are well on track to successfully deliver the new office development on schedule."
