ISG Jackson - Mixed-Use Development - Exning, ISG Jackson Successfully Delivers High Profile Exning Residential Facility

Date: 14 Sep 2007

ISG Jackson has successfully completed its £3.7 million project with Sanctuary Hereward (formerly Hereward Housing) to build Exning Court, a 34-unit extra-care facility in Exning, Suffolk, designed by PRP Architects. The project has been an excellent example of collaborative working with ISG Jackson working alongside the charitable housing association, Suffolk Social Services and key stakeholder Methodist Care Homes, as well as funding partners the George Gibson Trust Foundation and the Housing Corporation, to deliver an outstanding care scheme.

The extra-care model addresses the needs of elderly residents and enables them to live as independently as they wish, within a framework where progressive levels of support are available as and when they may be required. Designed around an internal quadrangle, the two-storey building comprises both one and two person flats, which have been specially designed to provide a home for life for their residents. Flexibility is key to the success of the scheme, allowing facilities to be tailored to meet the individual requirements of residents.

Communal facilities at Exning Court include a dining and recreational room, hair salon, on site laundry and buggy store. The scheme has a high environmental sustainability rating and has achieved a 'very good' eco homes standard with efficient under floor heating and timber frame windows. The building also bristles with the very latest assisted technology, enabling a range of monitoring devices to be connected to a central monitoring system - immediately alerting care staff if assistance is required. This technology enables elderly people and those suffering from dementia to live independently, whilst having access to a high standard of care when required.

Externally, ISG Jackson has worked with Elwood Landscape Design to create a thoughtfully designed garden area, aimed specifically at the needs of residents with dementia. In addition to providing security, the garden areas encourage ecological diversity, with a green house, potting shed and barbecue area also incorporated into the design.

Phillip Allerton, director of ISG Jackson's Living division, commented: "Exning Court incorporates the very latest concepts in extra-care housing provision, enabling residents to live independent and fulfilling lives within a modern, purpose built environment. The scope for innovation within this field is immense and ISG Jackson has built up a dedicated team of industry professionals that are passionate about delivering best-of-breed extra-care schemes."
