Date: 18 Sep 2007
Within days of the new Construction (Design and Management) Regulations coming into force, distribution and warehouse property specialist sbh.uk has been appointed Construction, Design and Management Co-ordinator (CDMc) for the fit-out of electronic goods retailer Maplin's new 175,000ft² (15,785m²) Rotherham warehouse.
Leading sub-contractors on the project include Jungheinrich for racking and conveyor systems, PWP Building Services for heating and electrical services, and Hall and Kay Fire Engineering who will install the fire protection sprinkler system.
sbh.uk has extensive experience of managing warehouse construction and fit-out projects for leading retailers including Superdrug owners A S Watson Group, T K Maxx and The Outdoor Group. As a result, compliance with the new CDM regulations falls comfortably within the scope of their proven expertise and skills.
The £1m, 8,000 pallet position project involves undertaking pre-contract work on site and overseeing the complete building fit-out and contract administration including pallet racking and shelving, conveyors, sprinklers, emergency lighting, other M & E services and office fit out. They will be working in close-co-operation with main contractor Finnegan who will be building an additional 20,000ft² of office accommodation on the same site, in what was originally acquired by Maplin as a speculative building with minimal office space. sbh.uk will be supplying an experienced project manager for the full 10 week schedule.
As the CDMc, sbh.uk will be responsible for ensuring that all designers, contractors, suppliers and Maplin staff comply with the new legislation, including ensuring the Health and Safety plan is implemented, carrying out risk assessments and monitoring the performance of all parties on site.
As one of the UK's leading warehousing property specialists, sbh.uk has delivered on budget, on time projects for many of the country's leading retailers, distributors and manufacturers including B & Q, General Motors, Nissan, Austin Reed and L'Oréal.
