BDP - General - BDP's Bridgewater Place Wins Top Regional BCO Award

Date: 04 Oct 2007

301/302 Bridgewater Place, Birchwood Park, Warrington, designed by BDP for MEPC, won a regional award in last night's (2 October 2007) British Council for Offices (BCO) 2007 annual awards.

The BCO Awards celebrate the very best in office space and highlight best practice in the design and functionality of commercial office space in the UK.
The Award judging panel observed "It was a joy to visit this project due to the consideration given to the context within which the building sits and the manner in which people move around it....This is another example from designer BDP of a crisp and clean design that delivers. The buildings are simple and good value.

The judges were impressed with the young team of designers and developers who planned the buildings to create a 'pavilions within a parkland setting'. They continued "The buildings represent an excellent workplace environment, presenting rare qualities and demonstrating how renovating and re-branding an off-prime brownfield site, by making an offer competitive with the city centre, has brought a different location into contention with the central Manchester market."

Jonathan Walsh, MD of MEPC Birchwood Park said "We're thrilled to have won this regional award as it recognises the quality of design - not just for the buildings, but as a great place to work - and achieving that was our aim from the outset. The fact that we have been judged against developments including major cities such as Manchester and Liverpool is a huge accolade for "Birchwood Park."

Also commenting on the award BDP Architect Director Gary Wilde said, "The idea was very much to create an occupier-friendly environment within the central landscaped zone that was free of cars. A water feature unites the space, adjacent to which are outside 'rooms'.

"These are areas where people can sit outside at lunchtime, meet other people, and eat their lunch in the Birchwood sunshine! There's very much a sense of place. The project has resulted in a happy client as well as contented office workers and has now, I am very pleased to say, impressed the BCO".
