Atlas Ward Structures Limited - Industrial General - Bristol, Cabot Park

Date: 03 Dec 2007

The growing importance of Severnside as a distribution centre for the South West has triggered further structural steel contracts for Atlas Ward. The North Yorkshire based steelwork contractor has recently completed work on a 550,000 sq ft cross-docking distribution warehouse.
The contract was awarded to them via Norwest Holst Limited on behalf of Pan-European Developer ProLogis.

Atlas Ward Structures supplied the Crossflow 550 project, in excess of, 1500 tonnes of structural steelwork on a design and build basis.

Known as Crossflow 550, the new building which is funded by GE Real Estate, is ProLogis' first development in the Bristol area and is likely to create around 600 new jobs in the logistics sector. Crossflow 550 will be ready for occupation in early 2008 and according to joint agents Knight Frank and CBRE, the scheme is already attracting interest from potential occupiers.

Commenting on ProLogis' decision to move into Bristol, Vice President George Glennie said:

"ProLogis has traditionally developed distribution facilities in the South East and East Midlands, but we recognise that the South West is becoming increasingly important as a logistics hub - particularly in light of EU legislation restricting the distances that commercial drivers can travel in one day.

"With its excellent motorway links, proximity to the Port of Bristol and its international rail freight terminal, Cabot Park is an ideal location for distribution facilities and we are delighted to have secured this site."
