Date: 13 Dec 2007
Evans Easyspace, the UK's leading provider of flexible workspace for small and growing businesses, and Leader of the Council, Councillor John Gilbey, officially launched the construction work on the first Evans Business Centre for Kent today (13 December 2007).
The £2.6m Evans Business Centre on Lakeview Business Park, Hersden will provide a mix of 20 offices and 12 workshops designed to suit different types of small and medium-sized businesses.
Performing the groundbreaking ceremony, Cllr Gilbey said: "Today marks the beginning of an important facility for Canterbury's small business sector. Evans Easyspace is a company with a clear commitment to creating a sustainable future through employment, improving the economy and enhancing the environment and I am confident this partnership will benefit local enterprise and contribute to its future success. I look forward to the unveiling of this Evans Business Centre next summer."
Ian Frostwick, operations director Evans Easyspace, said: "We are delighted to see construction work begin on our first development in Kent. As part of the growing network of Evans Easyspace business centres around the country, this new centre benefits from a tried and tested, highly successful formula that offers the ultimate in flexibility to the small business sector. We are very pleased to be bringing our national brand to Canterbury and supporting business growth within the local community."
The development will bring flexible, easy-in, easy-out business space to Canterbury and it is expected that up to 32 businesses will be located in the new centre, providing around 132 jobs once fully occupied.
The construction contract has been awarded to London and Southampton Contractors Ltd and it is estimated that 70 jobs will be created during the construction period. Completion of the Evans Business Centre is planned for June 2008.
Ideally located for Canterbury city centre and within good proximity of road and rail links, clients of the Evans Business Centre will benefit from easy-in, easy-out terms, telephony and broadband and no legal costs. The new centre will be designed to achieve a BREEAM rating of 'Very Good' for its environmental performance.
