ISG has secured a £2.1 million project with Northern Lincolnshire & Goole Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to create a new Emergency Care Centre (ECC) at the Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby.
Work to create the state-of-the-art new facility, which replaces the hospital's existing Accident & Emergency Department, will be carefully phased to ensure the unit remains fully operational during the construction programme.
The ECC concept brings purpose built, modern emergency facilities to the hospital, upgrading and extending the scope of emergency and specialist treatment currently available.
The contractor will adopt highly flexible working practices at the busy hospital, liaising closely with staff and carefully timing the works programme to minimise any potential disruption throughout the project. Existing consultation and treatment rooms will be stripped out, the space reconfigured and a range of new treatment rooms constructed.
On completion of this phase, staff will take possession of these new facilities, with ISG then commencing work on the newly vacated areas within the remaining A&E department. Accessibility is a key issue on site, with initial phases demanding the creation of a robust access policy to ensure the safe and effective movement of materials and operatives via a busy internal main corridor.
Mechanical & electrical services will be replaced throughout the new ECC, with specialist flooring and suspended ceilings installed. Phase two of the project sees the creation of treatment rooms, a staff room, offices and a family room. The final phase sees ISG create a high specification resuscitation suite, additional offices, file store and security room. Initial enabling work will commence at the end of January, with the main construction programme starting at the end of March 2008, with completion scheduled for February 2009.

Maintaining continuity of operations is fundamental for the existing A&E department and our phased programme has been carefully developed in conjunction with the hospital to ensure that we have minimal impact on the day to day operations of the facility, whilst providing the optimum construction solution."
