Monitor - General - Aberdeen

Date: 14 Mar 2008

Project management training specialist Monitor has been awarded a significant new programme of work from the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) to deliver competency based Project Management training with full accredited by the Association of Project Management. The contract has been won following the resounding response to the Introductory Certificate in Project Management pilot courses, which were delivered in Aberdeen in December '07. This was further supported by a 95% pass rate success together with longstanding demand and lobbying from the local oil and gas community.

The ECITB, who operate under a Board appointed from within the engineering construction industry by the Secretary of State for Education and Skills, will provide full funding for this programme to all site based staff from ECITB registered companies. Courses will initially be delivered at Monitor in Aberdeen followed by other Scottish locations in response to demand.

Monitor's training development manager, Alison Wood said: "We see this as a very positive development for local ECITB members and anticipate a very high demand. This Introductory Certificate in Project Management addresses the principles of project management techniques including planning and scheduling, communications, quality management, teamwork, resource management, risk management, handover, and review and will provide a valuable addition to ECITB's training portfolio. The Monitor team are delighted to be working with the ECITB to provide these courses in Scotland."

Wood Group Engineering (NS) Ltd was just one of the blue-chip companies to embrace this new opportunity and take part in the pilot programme in Aberdeen. John Raine, Wood Group Engineering (NS) training and competence team leader, said: "This is good news for Wood Group Engineering (NS) as this is a course which we use extensively in development of our staff."
