Savills - Retail Letting - Leeds, St James's University Hospital

Date: 27 Mar 2008

British Health Enterprises (BHE) has recently appointed Savills, alongside Fawley Watson Booth, as the joint letting agents for its new retail element at St James's University Hospital in Leeds.

BHE has signed a new 25-year lease with the NHS to refurbish its existing retail space in the Gledhow Wing and provide a new 15,000 sq ft (1,393 s m) retail and catering facility within the sceheme, which is one of the largest teaching hospitals in Europe.

The scheme, which is on-site and due for completion in February 2009, is already 60% pre-let to retailers including Ritazza, Upper Crust, Nat West Bank and Stock Shop.

Steve Henderson, associate director at Savills, comments: "We are delighted with this appointment from BHE and are looking forward to working with them at St. James's. The new retail element will really help to boost the facilities at the hospital, which not only accommodates 7000 staff, but also services over 400,000 patients per year.

"We are looking to augment the tenant line up already signed with retailers such as gift shops, health and beauty specialists, book stores, opticians, card shops and florists to ensure that the hospital provides a complete offering for patients, visitors and staff."

There are currently six remaining units at St. James's Hospital ranging from 150 sq ft (14 sq m) to 1,400 sq ft (130 sq m)
