Date: 03 Apr 2008

Leading North East developers Terrace Hill have strengthened their retail and leisure team in Teesside with the appointment of Simon Hawkins.

Hawkins, aged 35, joins from the Leeds office of Knight Frank. He previously worked for Gerald Eve in Leeds, Storeys SSP in Middlesbrough and Leeds and Christie and Co in Leeds.

He will specialise in out-of-town retail and leisure development throughout the United Kingdom and will also concentrate on hotel development work.

Duncan McEwan, head of retail at Terrace Hill, commented: "We are delighted to welcome Simon on board. He is highly regarded in his field and his energy, enthusiasm and knowledge should prove invaluable. He is a first-class operator and will strengthen our retail and leisure team across the UK."

Terrace Hill have just been granted planning consent in Penrith for a 40,000 sq ft retail park on Ullswater Road and are shortly expecting a similar decision in Ashington, where jointly with Asda they have an application in front of Wansbeck Council for a relocation of the existing Asda and a redevelopment extension to the town centre creating a number of new retail opportunities. The total scheme will extend to approximately 180,000 sq ft with 56 residential units.

In addition Terrace Hill has recently submitted a planning application in Helston, Cornwall for a 55,000sq ft food store.
