Multi Vastgoed - Retail Development - Hardenberg, Netherlands

Date: 11 Apr 2008

On 10 April, developer Multi Vastgoed will open the Centre plan 'De Markt' in Hardenberg. An investment of over € 60 million, it is the largest construction plan in the history of the Overijssel city. An enclosed city square was created where an open market square once was situated, with 8,900 m2 of retail and facilities, 113 apartments for rent and for
sale, and 550 parking spaces. To celebrate the opening of the shopping area, Multi Vastgoed is organising a three week opening festival in cooperation with the Hardenberg Trade Association.

"With Centre plan 'De Markt', Hardenberg is instantly transforming from a purchasing centre into a real shopping city. The square, the atmospheric architecture, the new stores, the cafés and extensive parking facilities promote recreational
shopping. The 100,000 inhabitants and tourists visiting the region will benefit from this development. The project also provides the city with a new living environment and promotes the development of the city towards the river Vecht", according to Heino Vink, Director of Retail Development for Multi Vastgoed. The total investment of € 60 million includes a contribution of € 10 million from the city council for creating public spaces and parking facilities. On the morning of Monday, 14 April the first weekly goods market will be held in the square.

Hardenberg town councillor Douwe Prinsse is enthusiastic about the renewal of the inner city. "The Hardenberg council is
proud of the new city centre and the full-fledged shopping city Hardenberg has become. The expansion of the shopping area has provided Hardenberg with a powerful impulse that suits the ambitions of the municipality perfectly. The overall offerings
are so diverse and broad that a day shopping is guaranteed to be fun! Even parking in the centre of town isn't a problem."

Multi Vastgoed managed to interest a large number of new retailers in establishing themselves in Hardenberg, including
C&A, Xenos and Perry Sport. 17 other stores will open their doors in the Centre plan 'De Markt', including supermarket Albert Heijn. The Kroonenberg Group has become the owner of the stores. 113 apartments are located above the shops.

De Markt's metamorphosis is one of the main ingredients in the Master plan for the renewal of Hardenberg's city centre. In its design, Multi Vastgoed's architectural agency T+T Design created an intimate marketplace surrounded by three retail and residential zones.

Utrecht Architect Agency OPL designed dozens of individual façades for the buildings - the alternating 'stately homes
and buildings' blend in perfectly with the existing architecture. Mei Architects from Rotterdam were in charge of the Master plan, public spaces and a municipal parking garage.

Centre plan 'De Markt' reflects the Multi Vastgoed philosophy that sustainable development is crucially important in urban centres. The foundations of this philosophy were applied as broadly as possible in both design and realisation of the project. The plan contributes to a sustainable future for the city of Hardenberg - it promotes maintenance of
purchasing power, boosts local employment opportunities and improves the city centre's social cohesion. To celebrate the opening, Multi Vastgoed is donating € 10,000 to the community of Hardenberg.
