Europa - General - UK
Date: 15 May 2008
Europa, a facilities management company, has been selected as one of the May Day companies, a network set up by HRH the Prince of Wales through Business in the Community. Its aim is to bring organisations together to find ways of reducing carbon dioxide emissions from business.
The case study Europa submitted was on the progress against its 2007 pledge, which was: "To measure our carbon footprint to a greater degree over the coming twelve months." We achieved this by extending our carbon dioxide measuring to include a more in-depth view of the company's transport use and to include all elements of carbon dioxide emissions from the buildings we occupy.
The carbon measurement now includes train and airplane travel utilising data from the group travel system which allows us to analyse each business trip undertaken on behalf of the company. The building data now gives us a better picture of all fuels used to heat the premises we are occupying including fuel oil. These figures will be reported on in our next CSR report due out in 2008 and allow us to develop a carbon dioxide base line from which targets for reduction can be set over the coming years.
Europa is now listed among the 207 companies on the May Day Network website as having reported back on its climate change actions and its case study will also be sent to Prince Charles' office.
