Alder King - Mixed-Use Development - Bedminster, Bristol

Date: 29 May 2009

Alder King Planning Consultants have secured approval from the Planning Inspectorate for the residential and office redevelopment of 127-131 Raleigh Road in Bedminster, Bristol.

The mixed redevelopment will see the existing former Wills Tobacco Building converted to modern small scale office units, with a new four penthouse roof extension and the construction of ten flats in a new building in the yard.

The site is situated opposite the Tobacco Factory Theatre and was opposed by Bristol City Council on size and design grounds. The Inspector, in considering the issues, stated that the developers had had regard to design and environmental matters and that the proposal, "...would not be harmful to the character and appearance of the surrounding area, nor would it conflict with the aims of policies...'.

Dale Evans, Partner at Alder King Planning Consultants, said: "I am delighted that the mixed redevelopment of this sustainably located brownfield site has been granted planning permission. The development has the potential to make a positive contribution to the appearance and character of the area, complementing existing while also providing modern and flexible office accommodation. We are also very pleased that the Inspector has recognised current market difficulties in agreeing with the Appellant that a five year planning permission should be granted."
