Multi - Retail Development - Europe

Date: 12 Jun 2009

Multi Vastgoed currently has a total of eight new retail projects under construction - a record number in over 25 years in the development business. "Two things, above all, have enabled us to achieve this: excellent choices of location and the fact that we always go for quality", says managing director Heino Vink.

The biggest project is the 'Stadskwartier' in Nieuwegein. Cityplaza, the shopping heart of the town centre, is being doubled in size to 56,000 mē. Of the existing retail space, 7,000 mē are being redeveloped, which means that a total of 35,000 mē new retail area will be created - making this one of the largest town centre projects in the Netherlands. The other projects are in Dordrecht, Spijkenisse, Rotterdam, Zaanstad, Leeuwarden, Utrecht and Almere. Taken together,
these retail projects will provide approximately 130,000 mē of retail space. All of them will be delivered between 2010 and 2011.

2010 will also see work starting on a number of other retail projects in the Netherlands. "As the European market leader, we can continue to count on a lot of confidence, in the Netherlands as elsewhere, in spite of difficult market conditions. We see this in the rental and financing of our projects, and in the undimmed enthusiasm of investors, which in turn allows us to develop new projects. That is not only good for Multi, it also provides a real stimulus for employment, both in construction and in the stores themselves", says Vink.
