Books Etc. - Retail - London W2, Bayswater, The Whiteleys Centre

Date: 27 Oct 1997

Retail: London W2, Bayswater, The Whiteleys Centre

Books etc. threw a huge family party on Saturday 18 October to mark the move of their store in the Whiteleys complex to a much larger and more convenient location at the top of the Scala staircase and right at the focus of the complex.

The new lifestyle store contains an extended children's department with a special amphitheatre for workshops and events. Magazines, a Seattle Coffee Shop, a full stationery department selling cards, pens and calculators amongst other items, 45,000 different books and comfortable sofas scattered around the departments, means that there should be plenty in the new Books etc. to keep everybody happy. Convenient opening hours (10am until 10pm) reduce the pressure and increase the pleasure of shopping and helpful staff are on hand to assist with choosing books.

'We have always designed our shops to be welcoming and friendly' said managing director John Monk 'and we hope that the new Whiteleys branch will become a destination store for shoppers, people who work in town and visitors to London, who will be encouraged to spend time with us rather than felling pressured to just come in, make a quick purchase or two and leave.

Books etc. is London's leading bookseller, with 17 branches in the capital. Their philosophy is to offer customers the widest range and choice of quality reading at the best prices. They also operate four airport bookshops and a shop in the Whitgift Centre, Croydon. 1998 will see shops in Brighton, Manchester and Finchley Road, London.
