Stannifer - Retail Development - Craigavon, Rushmere Shopping Centre

Date: 18 Sep 2000

Stannifer and CCS (NI) Limited have been granted planning consent for a 3,716 sq m (40,000 sq ft) extension and new double deck car park at its highly successful Rushmere Shopping Centre in Craigavon, Northern Ireland. The extension will increase the area of the covered shopping centre by 20%.

The latest in a series of initiatives that have transformed Rushmere into a sub-regional shopping destination, the extension will create additional retail space at the Southern end of the scheme, close to where TK Maxx has recently opened a 2,091 sq m (22,500 sq ft) store - only the second of its kind in Northern Ireland.

The "Southern Extension" will comprise six new units - a 2,322.5 sq m (25,000 sq ft) anchor store plus 1,394 sq m (15,000 sq ft) of retail space to suit retailer requirements. The new double-deck car park will provide approximately 400 spaces, ensuring that no parking is lost as a result of the extension. Construction is due to start early 2001.

The green light for the Southern Extension follows hot on the heels of the completion of the final letting at the adjacent Rushmere Retail Park, where JJB Sports signed up for the final 929 sq m (10,000 sq ft) unit. Other tenants on the Retail Park include Homebase, Currys, Peacocks, Carpetright and Harry Corry.

Further initiatives which Stannifer will be pursuing at Rushmere in the future include a 1,858 sq m (20,000 sq ft) extension to the Retail Park. This has the benefit of an Open Class 1 retail consent.
