Chartwell Land - Retail Development - Northampton, Towcester Road
Date: 24 Nov 2000
The Mayor of Northampton, Cllr Dr Vivienne Dams, officially opened the new pedestrian and cycle bridge that formed part of Chartwell Land's development of the new B&Q Warehouse on Towcester Road, Northampton on November 10th. It spans the River Nene adjacent to the Carlsberg Brewery.
The Mayor cut the official ribbon in the presence of members of Chartwell Land's development team, including representatives of Chartwell Land, Architect the Hains Partnership and Main Contractor Bowmer & Kirkland as well as representatives of B&Q and Northampton Borough Council's Planning Officer.
The bridge is one of many improvements to the area Chartwell Land is delighted to have been able to make. These have included the cleaning up of an old gas works site to build the new B&Q Warehouse, constructing the cycle path that links the new B&Q Warehouse and Nene Valley Retail Park with the town, a new pedestrian crossing on Towcester Road linking the B&Q Warehouse to Nene Valley Retail Park and fishing platforms along the River Nene.
The Worshipful the Mayor of Northampton, Dr Vivienne Dams, comments:
"I was very happy to be able to open the new bridge. I am delighted with Chartwell Land's development. Not only did it clean up an unsightly derelict site and construct a new B&Q Warehouse which has provided jobs for local people they have also added to the local amenities. By constructing the cycle path to the new B&Q and Nene Valley Retail Park are linked to the town and bridge links that parth with one on the other side of the river. The fishing platforms are already proving very popular - and I await hearing of a record catch!"
Mark Elliot of Chartwell Land comments:
"Chartwell Land is pleased to have been able to make the improvements to the area. We worked very closely with Northampton Borough Council throughout the planning and development process to ensure the works we undertook provided the maximum benefit to local people. Feedback has been very good and the new B&Q Warehouse is proving very popular".
