Chartwell Land - Retail Development - South Bristol, Imperial Park

Bristol City Council has granted Chartwell Land full planning permission for the next phase of development at Imperial Park, South Bristol. This will follow on from Phase One, a B&Q Warehouse which is due to open on 24 August 2001.

At the Planning Committee Meeting, Chartwell Land's application received strong support from officers and councillors alike.

Chartwell Land will now be proceeding with the next stage of the project, including 110,000 sq ft (10,223 sq m) of retail space, 20,000 sq ft (1,859 sq m) of (A3) restaurants and a public transport interchange.

Comet will occupy a 20,000 sq ft (1,859 sq m) destination store and letting agents King Sturge and Colin Buckle & Company are now marketing the remaining 90,000 sq ft (8,361 sq m) of retail space. Construction will start in September, allowing tenants to take occupation in Spring 2002.

A further application is before Bristol City Council for 100,000 sq ft (9,294 sq m) of open A1 retail space, which is due to be considered September this year.

Other phases of the 38 acre development will include 40,000 sq ft (3,713 sq m) of leisure incorporating a hotel and further restaurants together with 7.5 acres of industrial employment generating uses.

Chartwell Land has invested £35million to date and anticipate investing a further £25million to complete the development.

Ian Mashiter, Development Director for Chartwell Land said:

"We are delighted planning permission has been granted, allowing us to maintain the momentum of development. A very attractive retail and commercial centre is taking shape at Imperial Park and it will create a great new focus for South Bristol."
