HFM Consulting Engineers - Offices Development - Liverpool, Tithebarn Street, Silkhouse Court

Date: 28 Jun 2001

HFM Consulting Engineers recently advised US Airways on its move to a new 15,000 sq. ft. state-of-the art reservations centre, at Silkhouse Court, Tithebarn Street, Liverpool.

Manchester based HFM conducted a feasibility study and advised on the procurement of all M&E services for the £2.1 million contract. Half of the ground floor and the entire first floor were stripped to shell and completely refitted to a fully air-conditioned, high specification call centre in just 14 weeks.

During this short time frame, some 90 staff were recruited and trained to work at the multi-lingual reservations centre, to handle ticketing, flight status enquiries and telemarketing calls within the European region. It is anticipated that the workforce based at Silkhouse Court will grow to 150 over the next five years.

The centre was necessitated as US Airways selected Manchester as its seventh European Gateway, following Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, Madrid and Rome.

HFM's Managing Director Frank Mallon commented,

'We are delighted to have advised US Airways on its move to Silkhouse Court. The contract proved particularly challenging as a result of the tight time constraints involved.

'An interesting aspect of the contract was the specification of a gas generator to provide stand by power. We have found that many US clients moving to the UK prefer this option in light of last years' fuel disputes.'
