Tops Estates plc - Retail Development - Shepherds Bush, West 12

Date: 11 Dec 2001

The new "West 12" Shopping and Leisure Centre in Shepherds Bush opened in spectacular fashion last night when it hosted the world premiere of "Nobody Someday" starring Robbie Williams.

The 28 year old actor made his appearance at the new Warners 12 screen multiplex for the launch of the documentary film on his life.

The dramatic transformation of the West 12 Centre into a major leisure centre is now reaching its conclusion following the extension and redevelopment programme which has been carried out over the past 18 months by property regeneration developers Tops Estates.

West 12, in the heart of Shepherds Bush, is now the catalyst retail and leisure attraction in the area. New retail and leisure facilities have been created including the 12 Screen Warners Multiplex (the largest inside the M25) and a health and fitness centre.

Nick Barton, Tops' Leisure Director said, "The delivery of major urban lifestyle and leisure regeneration projects such as West 12 is a fundamental driving force to the continued health and vibrancy of inner city locations."

Major new lettings have been achieved on both the retail and leisure fronts including McDonalds, Aroma Oriental, Pizza Paradiso, and Prezzo Chicken who are all opening new restaurants. New retailers include Birthdays, J D Sports, Officers Club and Phones 4U with Borders Books occupying a 10,000 sq ft store on two levels. Existing anchor tenants Safeway and Argos have highlighted their commitment to the scheme by investing significantly in refitting their stores. Fitness First Health Clubs operate the 17,000 sq ft health club.

The total transformation of West 12 is an indication of the strength of the London suburban retail market. The new occupiers already secured are strong testament to Tops' strategy of this scheme. Further significant enquiries continue as people come to understand that this increasingly affluent London suburb presents a superb opportunity for high profile retail and leisure activities.

Darren Sharpe, Tops' Retail Director said, "We are encouraged by the level of demand shown from new retailers coming to West 12 following the introduction of leisure to the scheme. The Leisure industry now acts as a kick start to retailer demand."
