sbh.uk - Industrial Development - Birmingham New Street Station
Date: 09 Jan 2002
sbh.uk has completed the project management of a new 400 sq m Catering Service Centre for Virgin Trains' Rail Gourmet business, in just 12 weeks from start to finish. Based at Birmingham New Street station, the Centre will provide fully stocked mobile food storage units for Virgin's CrossCountry trains, either at the start of the journey or as a top-up. Purpose-built using modern catering logistics equipment, the centre sets a standard which Virgin Trains intends to implement at its other service centres that currently serve the CrossCountry network.
In determining the most effective use of space, sbh.uk designers had to cope with a low ceiling and specify the standard of fire protection needed in an underground station. The centre is equipped with food storage and handling systems designed for maintaining cold, chilled and ambient temperature foods in peak condition.
Opening the Centre, Brenda Klug, Executive Director Customer Service for Virgins Trains, commented: "The Centre is an important step in raising the standards and choice of catering for all Virgin Trains passengers, and we are committed to bringing all our centres up to date in time for the new Voyager fleet of trains in 2002. As the project was completed on time through the efforts of sbh.uk and Thomas Vale Construction, we are confident we can meet our deadlines."
