Masons - Mixed-Use Development - London SE18, Royal Arsenal site
Date: 21 Jan 2002
Berkeley Homes has begun construction of two of the five residential phases of the development at the historic Royal Arsenal site at Woolwich.
The residential part of the scheme, worth in excess of £100m, will involve the conversion and refurbishment of existing historic buildings on the site, together with the construction of new dwellings in keeping with the style of existing buildings. Berkeley Homes is working in close conjunction with the London Development Agency in ensuring the sympathetic conversion of existing listed and historic buildings.
In total 711 housing units will be provided, including 143 affordable housing units. Other parts of the redevelopment involve the provision of leisure and commercial facilities.
Masons is advising Berkeley Homes on the project through a team led by partner, Peter Stockdale.
David Rick, Sales & Marketing Director, Berkeley Homes, said "The development of the Royal Arsenal capitalises on the sense of history associated with both the area and specifically the site itself. The Architects, local planners and developers have created a balanced design uniting historic buildings and public spaces with the overall regeneration of Woolwich Town Centre. The redevelopment of Woolwich is one of the capital's largest and most exciting regeneration projects. The Royal Arsenal is at the heart of this regeneration and since the initial launch of homes for sale in mid November Berkeley Homes has seen unprecedented interest. To date a total of 101 apartments and houses have been sold at ground breaking prices for this area."
Peter Stockdale said "This site has everything from site remediation, mixed use and affordable housing, listed buildings and is of significant importance to the regeneration of the Thames Corridor and Woolwich in particular".
