High street men's and women's wear retailer Austin Reed has commissioned sbh.uk to project manage a 4,682 sq m (50,500 sq ft) extension to its existing national distribution centre in Thirsk. The extension will expand the facility to accommodate additional hanging and boxed garment storage within a multi-tier suspended flooring structure.

The project followed a fundamental review of Austin Reed's supply chain strategy by logistics consultants Lucidea Consulting Ltd. Work started on 10th December 2001 with completion including fit-out scheduled for the end of June 2002. Contractor for the £1.9m project is Norwest Holst Construction.

Alec Briggs, Administration Director for Logistics at Austin Reed, commented: "Lucidea Consulting and sbh.uk have delivered planning permission and started on site in line with the agreed timetable, and we are confident that the project will be ready within budget and on time. Improved distribution from the centre will help support Austin Reed's long term growth plans."
