Date: 20 Mar 2002

Salmon Harvester Properties has submitted a detailed planning application, jointly with Interbrew UK Ltd, to Cheltenham Borough Council for a £50 million mixed-use scheme to redevelop the heart of the town.

The 2.02-hectare (5-acre) development will provide 20,438 sq m (220,000 sq ft) of retail and leisure space including a 5,109.5 sq m (55,000 sq ft) 11-screen, 2000-seat multiplex cinema, a 2,787 sq m (30,000 sq ft) health & fitness club and a 4,180.5 sq m (45,000 sq ft) live entertainment venue. Pre-lets have already been agreed with Cine UK, Cannons Health and Fitness and Luminar Leisure.

The scheme will also feature 3,716 sq m (40,000 sq ft) of retail and 4,645 sq m (50,000 sq ft) of restaurant/A3 space, alongside 36 residential dwellings and a 350 space multi-storey car park.

Doug Stewart of Salmon Harvester Properties says: “We are hopeful that the council’s planning committee will determine this application quickly. The site is right at the heart of Cheltenham and the leisure and retail proposals for it have always attracted strong support from the local community.

“We are committed to delivering a first class scheme with high quality anchor tenants to provide Cheltenham and the surrounding area with a major retailing and leisure focus.”

London-based architects, ESA, has designed the scheme and work is expected to begin on site in early 2003 with the development open for trading by autumn 2004.

Letting agents for the scheme are Hartnell Taylor Cook and Healey & Baker.
