Date: 05 Apr 2002

Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council has shortlisted AMEC, Peel Holdings and Urban Splash in the final stretch of its selection of a preferred development partner for the 3.8-hectare Walsall Waterfront Phase 2 regeneration scheme.

The scheme will provide Walsall with an exciting new leisure-focused scheme in a unique location overlooking the Walsall Canal on Town Wharf. It will form a key gateway into the town centre, as well as complement the adjoining New Art Gallery and Town Wharf Retail Park.

The selection process is due to be completed before the autumn. The Borough Council is being advised by Cushman & Wakefield Healey & Baker.

Bryan Pell, Property and Development Manager of Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council, commented: "Walsall Waterfront Phase 2 offers a unique opportunity. It will create a landmark urban regeneration scheme along the Walsall Canal, and is part of the ongoing urban renewal and renaissance of
Walsall town centre."

Joanna Embling, Partner of Cushman & Wakefield Healey & Baker, commented: "We are delighted with the very high calibre of shortlisted candidates. All three names have an excellent track record in delivering innovative regeneration schemes. There is no doubt that whoever is chosen as the preferred partner will make the most of such a brilliant waterfront opportunity."
