Hodgson Elkington - Leisure Development - Lincoln, Brayford Waterfront

Date: 26 Jun 2002

A national restaurant operator, Ask Restaurants is to open a new restaurant overlooking the Brayford. Due to open in six weeks time it will create thirty news jobs and will add further choice to diners and vibrancy to Lincoln's changing city centre waterside area.

The restaurant, which will be on two levels fronting the Brayford is part of an £11 million scheme by developers, Simons Estates, with backing from emda (East Midlands Development Agency) for owners British Gas Pension Fund, which is transforming the marina area into a brand new leisure attraction.

Ask, which has restaurants in Grantham, Stamford, Newark and Nottingham, had been looking to open a restaurant in Lincoln for some while. "The Brayford area provided the perfect opportunity and location," said Ask Central plc's agent spokeman, Richard Watson. Thirty new jobs would be created said Mr Watson.

Ask specialises in pasta and pizza dishes and the restaurant will occupy ground and first floor levels of 5,000 sq ft overlooking the waterfront. Ground level eating and drinking will feature Continental style pavement seating and tables.

Simons Estates' aim is to create a successful and sensitive marrying of an historic city centre with the needs of modern leisure and retailing.

"The Brayford waterfront is now taking shape. Ask is a quality restaurant operator bringing further choice to the area. There is only one remaining unit of 5,000 sq.ft. left within the complex over looking the water space and this is already in an advanced stage of letting said Stephen Bradford, a partner at Hodgson Elkington, chartered surveyors, who are agents for the 80,000 sq ft development

"There is also serious interest in other units on Wigford Way. There is great potential to create a Mediterranean style or feel to this area of the city," added Mr Bradford.

The development is also close to existing city centre leisure facilities, pedestrianised High Street, St Marks retailing area.
