Drivers Jonas - Mixed-Use Development - Camberley, Park Street
Date: 28 Jun 2002
Following a report from Drivers Jonas, who advised the Council on the four short listed developers, Surrey Heath Borough Council has confirmed Weybridge developer Nicholson Estates, part of the Crest Nicholson Group, as its preferred developer to build a mixed use scheme on a 2.8 hectare (7 acre) site, west of Park Street, in Camberley Town Centre.
The Borough Council expects to enter into a formal joint venture with Nicholson Estates, signing a legal agreement by the end of the year. The consortium will build over 21,460 sqm (231,000 sq ft) of retail and leisure space. The scheme will be anchored by new retail units, a cinema and bowling complex. An additional 101 residential units will also be built including 25 keyworker units.
It is anticipated that an outline planning application will be submitted to the Borough Council's planning department in the Autumn.
Cllr. Gordon Parris, Executive Member responsible for town centre matters and Chairman of the Council's Working Party said, "I am delighted that all of the information that Members have received pointed in the same direction and has resulted in us choosing the offer and the development of such a reputable company. We have all been impressed by their work to date with the Council and I am sure we will at long last be able to realise a worthwhile development both for the town centre and the Borough as a whole".
Phillipa Arnold, Associate Partner within Drivers Jonas' Planning and Development team, who advised the Council said ' The scheme is an excellent example of mixed-use development. It shows how retail, leisure and housing, should be integrated into the modern town centre to provide an exciting, safe and vibrant environment'.
