Thomas and Adamson - Leisure Development - Glasgow, Radisson SAS Hotel

Date: 07 Aug 2002

Construction and property consultants, Thomas and Adamson (T&A) have successfully delivered Project Management, QS, PS and Quality Monitoring services on the spectacular new £27m Radisson SAS Hotel in Glasgow. This landmark project will mark the regeneration of an area of Glasgow’s Broomielaw which has historically eluded dynamic urban renewal.

The new four-star plus hotel, owned by Marylebone Warwick Balfour and operated by Radisson SAS Hotels (Radisson’s first major Scottish City Centre Hotel), will form a link between Atlantic Quay, Central Station and Glasgow City Centre. Designed by Glasgow Architects Gordon Murray and Alan Dunlop, the structure is largely concrete framed and incorporates tunnel form construction with high quality elevations clad in glass and slate, and a curved, pre-patinated copper screen will front the building, behind which is a six-storey atrium foyer.

Due to open in November 2002, T&A were chosen for their breadth of expertise and ability to work in partnership with the developer and operator, providing a range of services to ensure an integrated approach to delivery of the shell and fit out of the development.

T&A developed a bespoke procurement strategy in partnership with MWB to ensure maximum flexibility in the developing design and content of the hotel. This resulted in the separate procurement and integration of the enabling works, piling, main shell works, fitting-out works and requirements of prospective tenants.

Martin Reid, Senior Partner with T&A commented, ‘probably the main success of this project is to deliver this landmark building whilst simultaneously responding to the aspirations of the owner and operator. In the recent past, this area of the city between Central Station and Broomielaw has proved difficult to develop.’
