Distribution property specialist sbh.uk has won the contract to project manage the construction and fit-out of a 35,000 sq m, high-bay pallet store facility to be used by the Kellogg company in Manchester. The new facility will be located on land close to Kellogg’s existing Trafford Park manufacturing plant. The 14m high building will accommodate four pallet levels due to the specific nature of the finished product. Set in 17 acres, the facility will provide over 30,000 pallet positions and be able to handle an annual throughput in excess of 620,000 pallet loads.

With 24 dock levellers and loading doors, two level access doors and four hydroroll doors for factory intake, the building has sufficient accessing capability to handle peak demands. Flexibility in the design allows for the future connection to the rail freight terminal. A rail canopy and private sidings will be constructed as part of the development site.

The development includes a two-storey office block, a separate loading bank office, gatehouse and space for 137 cars and 106 lorries. Construction began in September 2002 and the fast track project will be completed in April 2003.
