Abstract:
The Research & Forecasting Department of Colliers CRE have published a research paper focusing on the UK shopping centre development pipeline.

2008 has been a record year for shopping centre completions and, despite the current economic crisis, major new schemes such as Liverpool One and Cabot Circus are reported to be trading well.

There has, however, been a significant amount of ‘slippage’ in the shopping centre development pipeline, with a number of developers questioning the financial viability of new retail developments and postponing construction until the market has bottomed out.

The publication quantifies the shopping centre development pipeline in the UK and analyses the floorspace by year, status and region. The relationship between population density and retail floorspace is also examined, with regional analysis of the potential retail floorspace per head in 2013.
